Genetic Algorithm

A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a metaheuristic optimization technique inspired by the process of natural selection, belonging to the larger class of evolutionary algorithms (EA). GAs are routinely utilized to generate high-quality solutions to optimization and search problems by relying on biologically inspired operators such as mutation, crossover (recombination), and selection. Mathematically, a GA explores a high-dimensional state space by maintaining a population of candidate solutions (chromosomes) evaluated via a scalar objective or fitness function, iteratively steering the population toward globally or locally optimal regions of the search space through stochastic perturbation and survival-of-the-fittest pressures.
