Incremental Heuristic Search
Incremental heuristic search algorithms, such as Lifelong Planning A* (LPA*) and D* Lite, solve the problem of efficiently finding shortest paths when edge costs change or vertices are added and removed in dynamic environments. Rather than discarding previous computational effort and executing standard A* from scratch upon graph updates, incremental search algorithms reuse information from previous searches, propagating discrepancy updates locally through priority queues to maintain optimal or bounded-suboptimal paths with drastically lower computational overhead.
